2020 is the year to stand still, reflect, and think about the future. For us as owners of The Building it is an eye-opener to realize what’s important to us and our team: Work & Life Balance. Therefore, we decided to put our focus and energy in one place: our salon at the Stadionweg 184.
The recently renewed COVID measures and advice result in new safety measures in our salons. The government urgently recommends that hairdressers and customers both wear a face mask.
The option to work with a face mask has been one of the regulations since the corona protocol. Now that it is urgently requested by our government we will be wearing a face mask during treatment and ask you also to wear a face mask during your visit. For optimal safety. If you don't have a face mask with you on your visit, we have face masks available in our salons.
Our salons remain open and we are ready to make your hair beautiful.

Ons idee was: nu gaat het minder, maar straks hebben we die goede kappers weer hard nodig.”

In our previous blog post you could read how the owners of The Building Estella, Rachel & Adriana deal with the Covid-19 situation, this week you can read the dairy personal story of the team members, Soumaya, Youri, Chanel & Melissa.
On March 16 we decided to close the doors of the salon because of the COVID-19.opening again later for a weekend because there was so much uncertainty about the support of the government when you close on your own initiative.
Fortunately on March 23, the government made the decision. Hairdressers have to close their doors.
And then it starts, to arrange everything;
We are now a few weeks further and luckily the above has all become clear and arranged.

As of tomorrow, we are open again. Our opening hours have not changed. If you have any questions about our precautions, your canceled or rescheduled appointment, please contact us.
A number of extra measures were taken by the cabinet yesterday to prevent the Corona Virus from being contaminated. People who suffer from a cold, coughing, sore throat or fever are advised to stay at home and avoid social contacts until they have recovered. Major events are canceled and Museums, Theaters and sports clubs will close in the coming weeks. In our salons, the precautions have also been adjusted for your and our safety. Read the precautions we use below.

Het blijft een precaire zaak, zeker voor controlfreaks en perfectionisten: in welke kappershanden leg jij je haar? Want als je niet oppast ben je voorzien van de coupe der wanhoop, en moet je ellenlang wachten tot alles weer bij het oude is.

1. How did you start in the industry?
When I was 15 years old, I wanted to work and learn at a salon, and so i went searching for the salon to get my start. One of the first salons that I've approached invited me for an interview. And up until today, that's how I have enrolled in the industry.
Everybody starts with their own new year's resolutions such as more exercising, healthier diet, and less alcohol.
If you think about being kind to yourself, we most likely think about the inside as our mental health. But the outside needs some extra attention too! Especially in the cold winter days. Because of the cold temperatures and dry air with the lack of humid, the cold winter may sensitizes the scalp and even causes some irritation, itching, and flaking. The side effects of a dry scalp are dull hair that easily breaks and splits.
The moon is known to affect our seas and oceans.
The attraction of the moon causes a high water level on the side of the earth where the moon stands.
This observation, also called the "tide" was discovered by Iscaac Newton.

Our Express Bar will make looking good easier (and more fun!). The Blowdry Express is the quick fix to all your lack-of-flair problems. Just sit back and let us take care of it!
A blowout or up-do at the blowdry express bar will take 20 minutes and requires pre-washed hair. Price starts from €30.

You just spent 3 hours in the salon for a new color. And requested a natural blonde color, of course not too warm or yellow.
The color is finished of with a perfect blowdry and you are completely happy with the end result, you go home.
You look at your hair at home and to your own surprise you still see a warm glims in your hair.
How did you start in the industry?
I started working in the industry at the age of 16. It wasn't my ambition necessarily because I chose to study economics.
In my final school year, I knew for sure that I wanted to work with my own creativity.
And so I have started orientating towards the creativity with hair, and I went looking for a salon that could make my hairstylist journey possible.
This is where I have started at The Building. At that time, I haven't even started my hairstudy yet, and the salon allowed me to work a couple days during the summer break.
I have started at The Building as a parttime student, and I switched to a full-time student immediately because I knew for sure that this is what I really wanted.
Our dear Annette used to visit us every four weeks to color her grey regrow. Every season we have switched it up from lighter and sometimes darker. Annette was thinking about growing out grey but never did... After a couple of weeks, we had a long talk and we decided to just do it!
1. When did you start in the Industry?
I have always loved playing with hair since I was young. As a kid I used to organize photo shoots with friends and soon I discovered that I wanted to work with hair.
After finishing high school, I have started a hairdressing course in Den Bosch. During the course, I was working 3 days at a salon and 2 days at school working on my skills.
I have finished the course asap so I could start working at a salon where I can express my creativity. In 2014 I moved to Amsterdam to join The Building team and I knew right-away this is my spot!
Now, 5 years later I am working 5 days a week at the salon with additional jobs for TV and photo shoots. Rachel and I also work together on The Building social media to keep our Instagram feed on-point.
1. How did you get your start in the industry?
I started at The Building when I was 16 years old and then developed as a hairstylist.
2. What are your specialties?
My specialty is styling blow drying. I like to make customers happy with a Nice blow dry, and happy to see them leave the salon with a big smile.

At the age of 15 I started working in a inspiring salon. I developed my passion for hair,and especially color. At the age of 21 I started working for myself.
2. What advice would you give to new stylists or stylists who aspire to be where you are today?
Many people ask me what my goal in life is , but I have never had one. I tackle the things that come by and that make me feel good. I always live in the moment and am curious what the world has to offer me. As advice I want to say that you certainly have to work hard, but also enjoy it, if you work hard and enjoy it, success will come to you.
1. How did you get your start in the industry?
I've been working with hair since my childhood, it's my biggest passion. At the age of 18, Estella co owner of the building called my school if I wanted to do an internship at The Building, now 5 years later I am a salon manager & color specialist.
2. What advice would you give to new stylists or stylists who aspire to be where you are today?
It sounds very cliché but follow your heart and do what makes you happy. I knew from the start of hairdressing training that color is my thing, I put all the effort and energy into the color theory and wanted to know everything about it and tryed almost everything out.
14 feb we will donate half of our day revenue of both salons to the charity @because_we_carry.
